Beautiful fish..

As my picture I took at Sea Life didn't turn as high quality and detailed as I had hoped, I decided to search for further fish and images until I am able to take more. The fish I found have beautiful vibrant colours which really inspire me...

Etched Fish bowls!

I love how simple yet artistic this idea is!  3 hand blown fish bowls in different sizes, detailed with beautifully etched designs. The blue stones and bright orange goldfish give a striking effect against the gentle transparency of the glass.

Kim Rody

Im interested in the art of Kim Rody as she uses bright bold colours to give dramatic effects. Her style uses bold textured brush strokes, giving the feel of movement and a unique feel. She usually chooses to work with acrylic and oils on a large scale.

Sea Life Center

I have decided to base my next project on marine fish. They have a beautiful range of colours and the movement and flow of the scenery is captivating... On Sunday I went to visit the Sea Life in Birmingham to get further inspiration...

Coventry Cathedral - Angels

On Saturday I went to visit Coventry Cathedral to look at the angels etched into the glass windows. The artists name is John Hutton, the work is described as his screen of Saints and Angels...

Graffiti - Putting your mark on a surface

The idea of street art usually begins with putting your mark onto a surface. Most graffiti is created using forms of paint, most commonly spray paint. However some artists scratch or carve their designs into surfaces!

The anonymous artist below chipped and carved away  picture of a face into a brick wall! Different layers and tones are created depending on the depth of the material removed...

The piece below was created by an artist called Simon Periton using spray paint onto glass! I love the way the colours are vibrant yet retain the soft effect etched glass gives. When you look deeply into the glass you realise it is a scene of trees seen over a barbed wire fence. The subtlety of the piece really inspires me as spray paint is normally used in a very 'in your face' way.

Lesley Pyke

I found an amazing glass artist today, Lesley Pyke does high detailed pieces of work. I selected the pieces below as they represent the fragility of nature, an idea i have aimed to put across in my work.

To create the piece below Lesley kept the glass cullet in its raw state, only smoothing the sharp edges. In this piece, named 'Endangered' she hand engraved 13 different endangered invertebrates!

I feel the leaves carved into the glass bowls below relate very strongly to my glass etching and work i am currently producing. I love the way the leaves appear to flow through the layers of the piece.

Resin Frame

My Resin frame is now complete :) I used clay to create my mould which i had to do very carefully to ensure the edges of the piece were not crooked.
I then added resin to my mould. Sadly once set i found the piece of glass i had made it for no longer fit! I discovered this was because resin expands while setting. I attempted to put this right using knives, files and sandpaper.
I think my finished piece works well and has the effect i was aiming for!
