Trees, Leaves & Vines...

Iv just been for a little walk around the park and college to gather more photos for my file. During my walk i found the majority of trees had become skeletal, all the leaves had long dropped off, however some were still clinging on... the leaves have retained a beautiful orange tone.

Also while everything else was gone, ivy still wrapped around trees and buildings bringing colour and life to their surrounding...

Glass Act

While searching for examples of large scale glass etching in preparation for my final piece, I came across this website GLASS ACT. Some of the pieces are beautiful and on a very large scale, I'm sure they used an industrial size tool though!!

More Glass...

This week i have continued exploring my glass theme. Iv been creating some rough sketches of how i want my etchings and frames to look. Instead of single leaves like before, I have been concentrating on leafy tendrils to flow onto the glass from the frames.

I did further tests for my resin frames, I liked the idea of some leaves being positive and some negative so i created a mould so the leaves were raised in the resin. I also tried setting leaves into resin so for some pieces, the frames could have real leaves which then flow into etched leaves.

Observational Drawing

Today iv been adding observational studies to my sketchbook. These being two leaves, one drawn in pencil, the other using biro. I plan to add further studies using different medias and techniques, including some large scale pieces.

Glass Etching & Resin

Im currently experimenting with glass etching. I feel that my first attempt went really well and I am very excited to experiment with this technique further! I plan to experiment with different types of leaves and typography to see what effects i can achieve.

I plan to progress into etching onto different materials such as mirrors and acrylic. Continuing the clear ice-like theme, i have decided to design frames for some of my etched pieces using resin. I did a few small sample tests to see what effects i could achieve.

I pressed different letters and leaves into clay to create raised areas of the mould. I then made a plaster copy of the design to create a mirror of the mould, so the piece would be the correct way round once made. I experimented with adding small leaves, cut out lettering and splashes of ink into the resin to see what worked well.
