More Interesting Ice

During the holidays I have found lots more inspiring ice and snow. photos to follow

Observational Drawing

Today iv been adding observational studies to my sketchbook. These being two leaves, one drawn in pencil, the other using biro. I plan to add further studies using different medias and techniques, including some large scale pieces.

Glass Etching & Resin

Im currently experimenting with glass etching. I feel that my first attempt went really well and I am very excited to experiment with this technique further! I plan to experiment with different types of leaves and typography to see what effects i can achieve. 

 I plan to progress into etching onto different materials such as mirrors and acrylic. Continuing the clear ice-like theme, i have decided to design frames for some of my etched pieces using resin. I did a few small sample tests to see what effects i could achieve.

 I pressed different letters and leaves into clay to create raised areas of the mould. I then made a plaster copy of the design to create a mirror of the mould, so the piece would be the correct way round once made. I experimented with adding small leaves, cut out lettering and splashes of ink into the resin to see what worked well.

Working with Snow

 This week iv been exploring putting my ideas across in different ways. The icy weather we've been having inspired me to do some work using the snow as we cant usually take advantage of this material! I have been experimenting with typography, through writing directly into the snow and also through the use of stencils bringing back elements from the start of my project.

During my work using snow I used a piece of typography i designed earlier in my project. I copied this piece by drawing it directly into the snow using the end of a pencil.

 I then decided to try and create a positive version of the text. I created a large stencil of my text and weighted it down ready for the snow to settle on. Overall i am very pleased with the results of my experiments!!

I was also inspired by the beautiful effects of the ice on some of the trees. The bright colours of the leaves contrasted with the pure white of the ice gave an almost dreamlike result...

Street Art Exhibition - Herbert Gallery

Last Saturday I took a visit to the Herbert Gallery to visit the Street Art Exhibition. I saw lots of interesting examples of graffiti and street art presented in a wide range of styles and medias.
